Largest Container Shipping Company Will Train Its Crews at ‘Makarov’
CMA-CGM, the world’s largest container shipping company, has reached an agreement with Admiral Makarov SUMIS on specialized training of ships crews. The company will send officers of seagoing vessels to the University to acquire necessary competencies.
CMA-CGM has high corporate standards of selection, recruiting and training of seagoing vessels crews. Considering Manila Amendments to STCW Convention and analysis of major reasons of accidents at maritime merchant fleet, the company built a matrix of major competencies for ship’s officers and set requirements to organization and delivery of training for its crews.
Based on the analysis carried out, including external audits, CMA-CGM has chosen the Makarov Training Centre of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping as a Russian provider for the required training.
To localize corporate standards in Russia, training of Russian instructors was provided by mentor instructor, and master class held with participation of the first crew of the company which included graduates of Kaliningrad State Technical University, Volga State University of Water Transport and Makarov SUMIS.
Training of CMA-CGM navigators will be conducted by Makarov Training Centre using facilities of simulator complex of Krylov State Research Centre which has in its arsenal six full-mission bridges integrated together with instructor’s workplace, into a single network. The complex is the largest navigational simulator in Russia used by Admiral Makarov SUMIS for educational and research purposes.
